2020 is the year in which Noah Daniels lives with his family. Back in 2002 a comet Nemesis destroyed the Earth's surface along with humans and animals. The few that survived live underground in a place called North Col. Noah is gifted in ways, but it is his fascination with the holodeck with proves to be costly. The holodeck with was once used is now left to gather dust, until Noah starts it up and lands in Haven.

After being captured by a group of Nomads, Noah is still trying to figure out how far back into the past he is. The Nomads are a small band of children who are pursued by another older group of youths called the Protectors who runs a mine. In this time, the most powerful substance is Thunderstone and this is what Tao of the Protectors is currently mining. Still a captive of the Nomads, Sundance and Noah come face-to-face with the protectors once again and we discover that Sundance has a twin brother Sutch who is a Protector. To prove he is no danger to the Nomads, Noah detroys the sentinel and then both he and Sundance return back to the Nomad camp. Back at North Col, Dr. Pretorius and Becky are trying to re-trace what Noah did in order to find him and bring him back.

Tao has plans for the truck known as The Beast. The Nomads are still trying to reach the safety of the mountains via the 'deep road', meanwhile Noah has discovered that he is actually in North Col, but instead of being in the past he is in the future year of 2085. Sundance returns to the camp with Noah's PHD and he figures out that to go back home he with need to same kind of energy that was first needed to transport him. The only thing which Noah sees to have that power is the thunderstone.

Arushka and Noah sneak into the protector mines in order to save Sundance whom they are convinced. Back in North Col, Noah's mother Liz has a look around the Holodeck. Tao meets up with Noah in the cave while Arushka has to deal with the feeling of guilt at having left Noah there alone and returns back to the Nomads lair to find him. Having been found and in order to escape Noah activates his PHD and along with Arushka they leave Haven.

Noah and Arushka stare gob smacked at the huge creature before them. This is a circus in 1999 — they have gone back too far! Arushka doesn't hear or care about Noah's concerns — these are real animals not just images on a wall. She never wants to leave.
